Chesapeake Bay Waterfront Homes For Sale
The Chesapeake Bay, located on the eastern edge of Virginia, is a body of water over 200 miles long which creates over 11,000 miles of shorelines between the actual bay and its tributaries. The Chesapeake Bay watershed includes parts of six states (Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York.) It is generally accepted that the Chesapeake Bay was largely formed as the result of a meteor impact about 35M years ago.
The Bay is fed by multiple rivers including those that define Virginia's Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck including the Rappahannock, York, Potomac, Piankatank, North (via Mobjack Bay), East (via Mobjack Bay), Ware (via Mobjack Bay) and the Severen (via Mobjack Bay). The James River flows into the Bay from Richmond (and beyond) but does not define the Middle Peninsula or Northern Neck.
Prominent towns and areas along the rivers and Bay in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula include Gwynn's Island (in Mathews County), Deltaville (in Middlesex County), Urbanna (in Middlesex County), Irvington (in Lancaster County), Kilmarnock (in Lancaster County... and Northumberland), White Stone (in Lancaster County), West Point (in King William County), Mathews Village (in Mathews County) and Gloucester Village (in Gloucester County)
